The Islay distillery Bowmore has announced the third and final expression in its Vinter’s Trilogy: Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask.
This new Scotch joins Bowmore 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla and Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured, both released in November 2017, in the three-whisky lineup.
Vinter’s Trilogy expressions matured in the distillery’s No.1 Vaults, one of the world’s oldest Scotch maturation houses, aging in manzanilla sherry, port, wine and bourbon barrels.
Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask is double matured, first for 13 years in ex-bourbon barrels, then for 14 years in port pipes. Altogether this resulted in a mahogany coloring with flavors of sultanas, sugarplums and salted caramel, the company reports, in addition to Bowmore’s traditional sweet and salty notes with a touch of smoke.
This expression is non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength (48.3% ABV) for a suggested retail price of $520 per 750-ml. bottle.
