Erik Lorincz opens Kwānt bar in London

Revered bartender Erik Lorincz has opened his Kwānt bar in London, a 19th century-style cocktail den and lounge situated below Momo restaurant.

The opening of Kwānt on Heddon Street marks Lorincz’s first solo venture since departing his role as head bartender of The Savoy’s American Bar last year.

Lorincz has joined forces with Mourad Mazouz, owner of two Michelin-starred Sketch restaurant in London and Andy Wahloo bar in Paris, to open the new venue below Mazouz’s Mediterranean and African restaurant Momo.

Kwānt – the phonetic spelling of ‘quaint’ – is described as a “relaxed haven” that pays tribute to “traditional British elegance”.

The cocktail menu focuses on Highballs, bespoke glassware and bar-grown garnishes, including “unusual” herbs that have been produced in house through Evogro, an all-year-round plant growing system.

The “pared-back but innovative” collection features 24 alcoholic cocktails and five non-alcoholic serves.

The bar team features bartenders Stefano Agostino, Rastislav Kasar, Giovanni Tavano, Celia Bugallo Jurado, Jumpei Yamamoto and Gabor Bajusznacs. Each staff member will rotate between the floor and bar.

Kwānt features tropical décor “reminiscent of an eccentric gentleman’s drawing room”, along with Chesterfield sofas and wooden panelling.

A wooden panelled cabinet will also display rare spirits and Champagnes from Lorincz’s personal collection, which will be available to guests from the vintage section of the drinks list.
