Farzi Café creates astrology-inspired cocktails

London-based Indian restaurant Farzi Café has turned to the stars for the inspiration behind its latest cocktail menu, which has been influenced by Hindu astrology.

The venue’s “post-modern, laboratory-style bar” has created the “unique” concoctions inspired by the interaction between Ayurveda and Vedic astrology – two Hindu astrological teachings.

The Vedika Menu, sanskrit for ‘restoring knowledge’, contains 12 signature cocktails – including three non-alcoholic drinks.

To create the drinks, the bar team at Farzi Café utilised a host of techniques and modern equipment, including fermentation, centrifugal machines and a sonic homogeniser.

Drinks on the astrology-inspired menu include Virgo’s Kanya in the West, made with Terroir Gin, orange, citrus, honey, Prosecco and frankincense ice cream, and the Gemini’s Harmonised Mithuna, which combines aquavit, vata spirit, grapefruit, clarified lemon, Belsazar rosé vermouth, salted hibiscus and soda.

The menu also features the Cut of Karka, made with Herradura Tequila, beetroot, smoked paprika, lemon, guava, Indian bitters, ginger, Bruxo Mezcal No10 and Indian ginger liqueur, and the Dhanus’ Journey, made with The Real McCoy Rum, Jah white rum, orange sherbet, centennial extract, mango ice, Martini Ambrato and fino Sherry.

The Vedika Menu has been developed by bar manager Din Jusufi, who has previously held positions at 108 Bar at the Marylebone Hotel, Plum + Spilt Milk, Sushisamba and the Great Northern Hotel.

He said: “I love the idea of a cocktail travelling: getting old; picking up bad habits and maturing until it (hopefully) finds its feet and trickles into history. Cocktails are the legends of our trade, we are the humble countermen behind the bar helping them live on.”
