Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming to help communities

Irish Distillers-owned Jameson Irish whiskey is introducing a community focus to its 2019 Barrelmen’s Homecoming competition, which will give bartenders the chance to win up to €20,000 (US$22,500) in funding for a local project.

Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming will focus on the theme ‘from grain to glass’ in 2019, challenging bartenders to partner with their local community and use materials that can be found in the area to create a new Jameson cocktail.

It is hoped the task will inspire bartenders to meet new people, share knowledge and collaborate with local craftsmen to expand and develop their creativeness.

The annual global programme will launch in almost 30 countries, including the US, Malaysia, Brazil and Sweden. Local one-day Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming events will take place in each location, offering educational seminars on Irish whiskey, bartender wellbeing, and the chance to take part in a cocktail competition to win a place in the global final in Ireland, in June. Cocktails must encompass the ‘from grain to glass’ theme, and use at least one of the following three expressions: Jameson Irish whiskey, Jameson Black Barrel or Jameson Caskmates.

The overall winner will receive up to €20,000 (US$22,500) of funding for a project that benefits their local community.

Simon Fay, international marketing director for Jameson at Irish Distillers, said: “Jameson Irish whiskey is leading the renaissance within the category that we have seen over the past 10 years.

“Bartenders around the world have been key to the global success of Jameson, so we are incredibly proud to unveil the evolved Jameson Barrelmen’s Homecoming programme as it underlines our commitment to supporting bartender education, community and innovation.

“We have listened to our Jameson bartenders and we are confident that our new offering reflects the changing world of mixology and will contribute to increased bartender knowledge, wellbeing and care for local communities around the world.”
