Edrington Beam-Suntory rolls out single cask whiskies

Drinks distributor Edrington-Beam Suntory UK has partnered with retailer The Whisky Shop to exclusively launch four single cask whiskies, including a 29-year-old Bowmore.

The first single cask from Highland Park will be available exclusively to The Whisky Shop W Club members. It has been aged for 11 years in American oak Sherry-seasoned casks and has “rich creamy notes of vanilla with pencil shavings, apple skins and fresh tropical fruits”.

The 67% abv expression is limited to 615 bottles and priced at £95 (US$122). It will be available to buy later this month.

A second Highland Park expression, exclusive to The Whisky Shop subsidiary Loch Fyne Whiskies, has been aged for 15 years. It has notes of “mandarins, pine shavings, ginger and light peat”. Bottled at 58% abv, it will be priced at £150 (US$194) and available to buy from late November.

The third bottling, Maker’s Mark Private Select, is the result of a single-barrel programme allowing distributors, bars and retail customers, the opportunity to work with the brand to create a cask strength expression.

Following the consultation period, a fully matured barrel of Maker’s Mark is infused with 10 oak staves, with five styles to choose from. Limited to 252 bottles, the expression is available online and in store from today (13 November) at an RRP of £85 (US$110).

The final expression, Bowmore 1989, is a 29-year-old single malt aged in Bourbon casks. It is described as having a “slight medicinal nose, with hints of sweet fudge, butterscotch and lavender”. There are only 173 bottles available, with an RRP of £495 (US$640).
