Fells Wine is embarking on a significant shift in its UK strategy with the launch of its ‘French Revolution’ expansion. This ambitious move represents a dramatic increase in the range of French wines available to UK consumers, driven by a focused approach to premium, family-owned producers and a concerted effort to address gaps in the market.
According to Florence Fagan, Fells’ France portfolio manager, the French wine industry is consistently innovating. This translates to a strategic prioritization of producers with a demonstrable market approach, alongside a desire to diversify offerings across various price points, from accessible Vins de France to iconic Bordeaux houses. Fells intends to capitalise on evolving consumer tastes and the increasing demand for quality French wines.
New Additions and Acquisitions – A Diversified Portfolio
The expansion is immediately evident in the additions to Fells’ portfolio. Notably, the UK is now the first market to offer Guigal’s fourth ‘LaLa’ wine, a compelling expression of the renowned producer. Hugel’s arrival with its first Crémant d’Alsace – a premium sparkling wine – adds another dimension to the offering. Furthermore, the release of Henriot’s exciting vintage releases demonstrates the producer’s continued commitment to quality and showcases their expertise.
March 2026 saw a significant acquisition with the addition of Clarendelle (part of Clarence Dillon), bolstering the Bordeaux contingent, alongside further selections. This reflects a deliberate strategy to broaden appeal within the established Bordeaux category.
Supporting the Growth – Team Expansion
To support this aggressive growth plan, Fells has invested in its team. Hilary Nobbs has been appointed as a second brand manager, working closely with Florence Fagan to effectively manage the expanding French wine offerings. This dual-management approach will be crucial to navigating the complexities of a rapidly evolving portfolio.
