Tarrant Derksen, from New Norfolk Distillery in Tasmania, Australia, has earned the esteemed title of Master Rummelier. This achievement follows Derksen’s completion of the base-level Rummelier Certification in 2023, and subsequently, the advanced Master Rummelier certification between 2024 and 2026. The rigorous program required Derksen to taste a minimum of 100 rums and tour 10 rum distilleries, showcasing a deep dive into the world of rum.
Rum Varieties Receive Global Accolades
New Norfolk Distillery has been recognized on a global scale with three of its rum varieties being awarded as the world’s best in 2025. These include Near Horizon, which was named the Best traditional spiced rum; Drone Riot, awarded as the Best sugarcane spirit rum; and Furiosa, honored as the Best Contemporary and Botanical rum.
