Overview: Nestled in the picturesque Hill Country of Texas, Ron Yates Winery has been making waves with its exceptional wines and now takes it to the next level with an expansive new tasting room. This 8,800-square-foot facility is a testament to the winery’s commitment to quality and customer experience.
The Full Story
Ron Yates Winery has come a long way since its inception in 2007 when Ron Yates purchased Spicewood Vineyards. From its early days as one of the few wineries in Texas, it has grown into a thriving business with over 600 wineries now operating in the state. The new tasting room is not just an expansion but also a reflection of the changing landscape of the wine industry.
Yates had initially planned to build the tasting room immediately after finishing the winery but was forced to reassess due to budget constraints. However, this setback only fueled his determination to create something truly exceptional. The result is a state-of-the-art facility that boasts comfortable seating areas for guests, a secret room for private events or library tastings of older vintages, and even a full commercial kitchen with wood-fired pizza oven.
Production & Profile
The winery’s production process has been refined over the years to create exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of Texas-grown grapes. The new tasting room features a tap system offering three by-the-glass options: Estate Picpoul Blanc, sparkling rosé, and young Tempranillo. In addition to its in-house offerings, Ron Yates Winery also produces several bottled red wines from vineyards in Del Valle.
The Get Together boxed wine series will soon be expanded with a new release featuring both white and red options. The winery’s commitment to innovation is evident in its willingness to experiment with different styles while maintaining the high standards of quality that have earned Ron Yates Winery recognition within the industry.
Brand & Industry History
Ron Yates’ passion for wine dates back to his days at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he was a 2005 alum and delivered the commencement speech in May 2026. His dedication to building a successful winery has been rewarded with numerous accolades, including creating special edition wines such as The Barrister’s Reserve.
The Texas wine industry has undergone significant growth since Ron Yates first entered it, from just over 16 wineries in 2007 to the current count of over 600. This expansion is a testament to the hard work and perseverance of individuals like Ron Yates who have contributed significantly to shaping this vibrant sector.
