Overview: Brucato Spirits has been recognized as an Editors’ Pick for the 2026 Best of the Bay awards. The San Francisco-based distillery is celebrated for its lineup of amaro releases and botanical spirits that have garnered attention from local reviewers.
The Full Story
Owners James and Sierra Clark began producing Brucato amaro in 2018. The operation relocated to an old Double Rainbow ice cream factory building on South Van Ness & 14th Street in the Mission district, opening the distillery and adjoining Bar Brucato in March of the previous year. While the bar and restaurant closed in June 2026, the distillery continues releasing spirits.
Adam Hall, a vet from Anchor Distilling and Hotaling & Co., was hired as the new distillery manager this year to oversee production. The shift has led to an infusion of intriguing spirits following the closure of the restaurant component of the business.
Production & Profile
The newly released Crane Cove Rye began with barrels of straight malted rye that was distilled in 2017 at the old Anchor Distilling facility in Potrero Hill. This release utilizes Liberty Ale yeast and is limited to 450 bottles. Other offerings include Fields, a fourth amaro crafted with fenugreek and artichoke leaf.
The Chaparral amaro features yerba santa, bay, and cardamom. Additional spirits in the lineup include Spring Almond liqueur, Oro y Fierro kumquat liqueur, and Mission Gin.

The connection to Anchor Distilling is highlighted by the use of barrels from the old Anchor Distilling facility in Potrero Hill for the Crane Cove Rye, referencing a foundational SF craft spirit era.
