Overview: A talk on the history of gin has kicked off the Highworth Historical Society’s latest programme of talks. The event, held on Wednesday, September 23, drew around 60 attendees from Highworth and the surrounding areas.

Local speaker April Thrush delivered a presentation titled ‘The History of Gin’ to members and guests. She guided the audience through the heritage, botanical origins, and chequered past of gin.
Guests were invited to sample a variety of gins, with donations from distilleries including Abingdon, Cirencester, Ramsbury, and Orkney Gin. As part of Swindon History Week, the society will open its archives to the public on Sunday, September 27, from 11am to 3pm at Northview Community Centre.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the town’s historical records and learn more about Highworth’s heritage. The society’s next public meeting will take place on October 28, at 7.30pm.
