Kyotango Mairingen Distillery’s “Mairingen Fresh Craft Gin (ORIGINAL)” has achieved a remarkable feat, securing a coveted triple crown at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The win solidifies the distillery’s position as a rising star in the global gin landscape.
A Trio of Recognition
The gin’s success is underscored by its victories in three key categories: Best Japanese Gin, Best Overall Gin, and a Double Gold Award – a testament to its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. This level of recognition is rarely achieved, placing Mairingen Gin among the elite spirits competing worldwide.
Crafted with Precision
The Mairingen Fresh Craft Gin is born from a deeply considered production process. The core of the gin’s character comes from 14 meticulously selected botanicals, including the prized Kuromoji juniper, hand-picked on the day of harvest, and Kumazasa, roasted over heated stones – a technique that imparts a smoky complexity.
Adding to the gin’s unique profile is the water source, a carefully curated blend. Ultra-soft water, boasting a hardness of 10, is sourced from 640m altitude, complemented by hard water from Tango-Amanohashidate-Oeyama Quasi-National Park, with a hardness of 180. This duality creates a truly distinctive spirit.
The distillery, Kyotango Mairingen Distillery, established just approximately one year prior, has rapidly gained acclaim for its dedication to traditional methods and innovative techniques.

The Mairingen Fresh Craft Gin (ORIGINAL) is currently available in a 700ml bottle for ¥5,610 (including tax). Smaller sizes are also offered. Consumers can find the gin starting December 23rd at the Barneys New York Ginza flagship store.
A Future of Flavor
This triple crown win signifies a pivotal moment for Kyotango Mairingen Distillery. The combination of meticulous sourcing, masterful distillation, and a dedication to Japanese heritage promise a bright future for this increasingly influential gin.
