Kerala is gearing up to add a significant new player to its spirits market with the launch of a locally-produced brandy, and the government is inviting the public to help shape its identity. The Kerala Beverages Corporation, in partnership with Malabar Distilleries, is hosting a contest to name the new brandy, offering a top prize of Rs. 10,000.
The ambitious project, spearheaded by Malabar Distilleries, will see a state-of-the-art facility operational in Menonpara, Palakkad, commencing production in February 2026. Initial projections indicate a daily capacity of 13,500 to 15,000 cases, suggesting a substantial contribution to the region’s spirits landscape.
A Taste of Kerala
This isn’t just about adding another product to the shelves; it’s a strategic move to cater specifically to the preferences of northern Kerala, where brandy enjoys enduring popularity. Beyond the established Jawan rum, this new brandy represents a targeted approach to meet local tastes.
Consumers are encouraged to submit their name suggestions via email at malabardistilleries@gmail.com by January 7th. The winning entry will not only secure the consumer the coveted prize but also contribute to the brandy’s unique brand identity.
This expansion highlights Kerala’s continued commitment to fostering its beverage industry and creating opportunities for local producers. The contest offers an exciting chance for consumers to participate in the birth of a new spirit and potentially win a rewarding sum. Don’t miss your chance to make your mark on Kerala’s brandy scene.
