January is traditionally a month of resolutions, but this year, Mumbai’s spirits scene is offering a decidedly different approach: Ginuary. This inaugural month-long celebration is rapidly gaining traction, driven by a collective passion for gin and a desire to showcase the spirit’s remarkable versatility. Unlike Dry January, Ginuary is a joyous celebration of all things gin, with bars and cafes crafting innovative cocktails and offering unique tasting experiences.
The concept, born from the enthusiasm of gin enthusiasts and brands, is simple: to explore and enjoy the full spectrum of gin’s flavors. It’s a movement built on responsible indulgence and the pleasure of sharing exceptional drinks with friends and family.
Several Mumbai establishments have embraced Ginuary with exciting new offerings.
Pollen (Tattva Bar & Cafe)
has created a sophisticated cocktail featuring 45 ml gin, 15 ml extra-dry Martini, Angostura bitters, guava juice, white pepper syrup, and a vanilla wood spray – priced at Rs 799.
Baglami (BKC)
is offering a refreshing mix of 60 ml gin, yuzu, basil leaves, and honey water for Rs 900. The Bluebop Cafe has concocted a stunning blue pea-infused gin cocktail with lavender syrup, lime juice, and salt (Rs 685), while The Bombay Canteen’s Good Boi presents a unique Gin and Tonic with pickle tomato and tomato water (Rs 790). At 145 Kala Ghoda, the Jamun Sour combines London Dry gin with jamun syrup, lime juice, vegan foamer, and chaat masala (Rs 575). And finally, Monkey Bar’s Down and Dirty offers a zesty blend of gin, sweet vermouth, amla brine, and super sour syrup (Rs 525).
This isn’t just about trying new drinks; it’s about recognizing gin’s broad appeal, from classic Gin and Tonics to more inventive creations. The movement’s success highlights a growing appreciation for the spirit’s complex flavor profiles and encourages experimentation. As Ginuary unfolds, expect further innovation and a deeper dive into the world of gin – a welcome departure from traditional resolutions.
