The Minnesota spirits community is united in grief following the passing of Branden “Brandy” Wahl, 73, of Barnesville, Minnesota. Wahl succumbed to complications stemming from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at Valley Care & Rehab on Tuesday, December 30th, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many. Wahl, a respected figure within the region’s burgeoning craft spirit scene, was known for his quiet dedication and genuine passion for distillation.
While his formal involvement in production remained largely private – a hallmark of many independent distillers – Wahl’s influence extended throughout the area. Word spread of his small-batch whiskeys, bourbons, and rye offerings, each imbued with a careful attention to detail and a deep appreciation for the land that informed their character. He operated under the moniker ‘Brandy’ Wahl, a fitting tribute to his life’s work.
Details surrounding his production methods were understandably guarded, reflecting the intimate nature of his operation. However, conversations with local retailers consistently highlighted the exceptional quality and unique profiles of his spirits – a testament to his meticulous approach.
