The Odisha Excise Department has intensified its crackdown on illicit liquor operations, netting ₹76.61 lakh in contraband over the past 10 days of a dedicated enforcement drive. This significant seizure underscores the department’s commitment to safeguarding public health and combating illegal trade.
As of today, 212 cases have been formally registered, resulting in the arrest of 63 individuals, including one under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation is strategically targeting both production hubs and key distribution channels within the state.
A Shocking Volume of Illicit Products
The sheer scale of the seizure is alarming, reflecting the ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal liquor production. A detailed breakdown of the contraband reveals:
* 8,524 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor
* 377 bulk litres of duty-paid liquor
* 78,500 bulk litres of fermented wash
* 10,000 kg of gur wash
* 274 kg of mahua flowers
* 70 grams of brown sugar
Koraput Raid Highlights
Recent operations have yielded particularly noteworthy results. A coordinated raid in Bondaguda, Kotpad area, Koraput, uncovered an illegal manufacturing unit. The team seized 1,545.16 litres of spurious liquor, coupled with a haul of counterfeit excise materials – including fake adhesive labels, company labels, corks, spirits, and machinery. This coordinated takedown demonstrates a targeted approach to dismantling entire illegal networks.
