The venerable Mapleside Farms is set to introduce a new year-round destination this fall based around craft wine, beer and cider and shareable food. Kelly Clement described the location as a “gathering place on the farm where guests can come for a glass of wine, a pour of craft beer or cider, something good to eat and the view that families across Northeast Ohio have known for generations.”
In addition to craft wine, beer and hard cider, Clement said Social House will also feature seasonal drinks from ingredients grown on the farm, along with a selection of nonalcoholic options. Food selections will be designed “to move around the table rather than sit in front of one person, with boards, pizza, warm shareables, sandwiches and sweets that suit a quick stop as easily as a long evening with friends,” according to chef Rob Romph.
Production & Profile
Mike Piazza, an award-winning brewer who has spent his career building recipes in Northeast Ohio, will be guiding the beverage program. Much of what will be poured at The Social House is being grown a few hundred yards from where it will be served. Grapes and trees planted a few years ago are ready for harvest.
The interior of the three buildings on the farm are also being reimagined for the new concept. The historic Apple House will become known as The Great Room, with open seating, food and drinks and live music; the former bakery becomes The Press, named for the wine barrel that welcomes guests to this part of the farm and described as “a room that will shift in feel as the day goes on”; and the former gift shop becomes The Library, a quieter and more intimate room made for conversation, small gatherings and private events.
