Born in Kalaheo, where the distillery is located, Yadao grew up on his family’s farm tending to cattle and growing vegetables. This upbringing provided a deep connection to the land and the island’s agricultural traditions. He joined the company in 2018 after a friend working there encouraged him to apply for an open position.
Since joining, Yadao has worked across nearly every stage of production, beginning on the bottling line before moving into blending. He was mentored by predecessors on the distillery team and supported through professional development opportunities, including training at Moonshine University. “I’m excited to step into this role and grateful for the support of my ‘ohana, both at home and here at Koloa,” said Yadao. “I’ve learned so much from the people around me over the years, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry that experience forward. My goal is to continue making a rum that reflects where we come from and allows people to experience ‘The Spirit of Aloha’ wherever they are.”
For Yadao, being named Head of Distillery Operations represents a full-circle moment. In his new role, he will help guide the team and oversee the production process while upholding Koloa’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and “The Spirit of Aloha.”
