The Full Story
Very limited spaces are available for the event on 15 October at Caviar House & Prunier Piccadilly in London’s Mayfair. The intimate tasting will take place between 7pm and 8pm. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for £65 (US$86) per person. David Howarth, founder of House of Rum, stated, “We’ve always believed great rum belongs at the finest tables.” He noted that when the Mauritius 2014 was tasted alongside Prunier caviar, it genuinely surprised them. Chris Mehmet, managing director at Caviar House & Prunier, added that their Prunier Baeri caviar is pure and briny with a gentle nuttiness. He noted they have been perfecting caviar since Émile Prunier founded the house in 1872. The evening will feature expert tips, tasting secrets, and a welcome cocktail with canapés upon arrival. Caviar House’s caviar master will guide the tasting, alongside Jaz Anand from Skylark Spirits. Last month, House of Rum hosted a rum and cigar pairing event at Liverpool’s Turmeaus Late Hour Sampling Lounge. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of UK RumFest and its founder, the indie bottler unveiled a 20-year-old expression from Barbados.
Production & Profile
The expression is bottled at a cask strength of 54.2% ABV. House of Rum’s Single Cask Mauritius 2014 rum presents cherry, prune and caramelised red apple notes. The rum’s natural sweetness rounds off the caviar’s brine. The caviar is described as salty and briny, rich and buttery, with a gentle nuttiness and a long, savoury finish. A pearl of this sublime caviar sets off the rum’s cherry, prune and caramelised red apple notes.
Brand & Industry History
Caviar House & Prunier has been perfecting caviar since Émile Prunier founded the house in 1872. The event is part of a series of tastings by the bottler at Caviar House’s flagship seafood emporium in London’s Mayfair. This release relates to the 20th anniversary of UK RumFest and its founder.
What This Means
Traditionally, caviar has been paired with something to cut through its richness, whether Champagne or ice-cold vodka. The Mauritius 2014 achieves that from a different angle entirely; its natural sweetness rounds off the caviar’s brine beautifully. David Howarth explained that salty and briny flavors make sweet and fruity flavours taste brighter and fuller, which is why salted caramel works.
