A new single malt whisky, Highgrove Evergreen, is captivating the spirits world, underpinned by a truly unique heritage. Crafted with barley grown directly on the Highgrove Estate, home to King Charles III, this release represents more than just a premium spirit – it’s a tangible connection to the Crown.
The story began with Cotswolds Distillery, founded in 2014 by Dan Szor. Szor’s journey is a fascinating one, transitioning from a career in Wall Street finance to a dedicated pursuit of distilling, initially focusing on gin and single malt whisky. He first acquired Plumage Archer barley from the Highgrove Estate, sparking the concept for Highgrove Evergreen.
What sets Highgrove Evergreen apart is its meticulously sourced ingredient. Plumage Archer, a specific varietal of barley, is cultivated within the estate, ensuring a traceable and exceptionally pure spirit. The whisky adheres to rigorous standards for English whisky, including production within England, a minimum aging period of three years, and the use of 100% malted barley within copper pot stills.
“This collaboration began when I initially purchased Plumage Archer barley from the Highgrove Estate,” explains Szor. “Proceeds from the sale will benefit The King’s Foundation.” The resulting spirit is aged in a blend of ex-bourbon and red wine barrels, contributing to its complex flavour profile. Bottled without chill filtration and with natural color (SRP £100), Highgrove Evergreen delivers a rich and authentic taste of England.
Currently available through retailers like Total Wine, Highgrove Evergreen offers a rare opportunity to experience a whisky inextricably linked to the Royal Estate. It’s a blend of passion, heritage, and exceptional craftsmanship – a truly unique offering within the global whisky landscape.
