Glasgow Distillery has released its first 10-year-old peated single malt, marking a decade since it began producing peated spirit. The Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated is limited to 550 bottles and has been matured in three ex-bourbon casks – two refill and one first-fill. Sebastian Bunford-Jones, head of sales and marketing at Glasgow Distillery, said: “There’s something particularly special about releasing a whisky that represents ten years of what we’ve been building here in Glasgow.” When peated spirit production began in 2016, this whisky was literally at the beginning of that journey. Ten years later, peated whisky is now an important part of annual production.
The distillery opened in 2015 as the first independent single malt distillery to open in Glasgow for more than 100 years. Peated whisky has formed a significant part of its production since 2016, accounting for around five months of annual production. The release comes as Glasgow Distillery continues its push to revive whisky production in the city.
Production & Profile
The whisky is bottled at 54 per cent ABV and has been non-chill filtered with natural colour. Tasting notes include delicate bonfire smoke, honeyed sweetness, tropical fruit and citrus, alongside a gentle waxy texture and lingering oak spice. The distillery said the use of only ex-bourbon casks was intended to highlight the character of the peated spirit and its decade of maturation.
