Overview: The Gospel has expanded its core range with the release of a new rye whiskey that marks a significant milestone for the Australian spirits industry. Set to launch on 12 October 2026, this spirit is the first Australian whiskey to meet strict Bottled-in-Bond standards.
The Full Story
Australia’s only dedicated rye whiskey distillery has expanded its core range for the first time in almost six years. The new release adheres to rigorous requirements including single season, single distillery, and single distiller production. Matured for more than four years and bottled at 50% ABV, the spirit represents a deliberate expression of development and time and place.
The whiskey also champions the different profile of Australian rye, grown by a single farmer in South Australia’s Murray Mallee region, specifically chosen for its harsh climate. The resultant whiskey is characterised by its bold structure and generous depth, with aromas of rye bread, spice, toffee apple and sweet pastry.
Production & Profile
The Gospel co-founder Andrew Fitzgerald noted that Bonded is the next level of straight rye production. The whiskey contains over 51 per cent rye and matures in American oak before being bottled at 100 proof, or 50% ABV. This specific expression refines the category requirements further than standard straight rye.
Brand & Industry History
The Gospel is Australia’s only dedicated rye whiskey distillery, establishing a unique position in the local spirits landscape. The brand has refined its production to meet the next level of category requirements through single season production and strict provenance standards.
What This Means
This release signifies a high level of precision and provenance for Australian spirits. Fitzgerald described it as the most deliberate whiskey made by the brand, intended for those who take their whiskey seriously. The launch marks a significant expansion of the core range after a six-year hiatus.
Consumer Takeaway
Bonded Rye will be available from 12 October through distributor Vanguard Luxury Brands with an RRP of $140. It is distributed by Vanguard Luxury Brands and offers access to the first Australian whiskey to meet Bottled-in-Bond standards.
