Overview: Cazcanes has introduced a new Experimental Single Barrel series featuring Reposado tequilas matured in unconventional casks. Published on October 2, 2026 by Jonah Flicker for Robb Report, the release highlights two specific expressions utilizing stone-fruit liqueur barrels.
The Full Story
Single-barrel expressions are less common in agave spirits than whiskey, yet Cazcanes is expanding this category with a focus on unusual cask types. The brand has been around for about a decade but has made a bigger impact in the U.S. over the past couple of years. The new series kicks off with two Reposado releases: No. 9 Mirabelle Eau de Vie Single Barrel and No. 9 Apricot Brandy Single Barrel.
Edwin Dolgopyat, CEO of Cazcanes, stated that establishing this experimental offering marks an important moment in the brand’s evolution. These barrels demonstrate what is possible when respect for agriculture, patience, intentionality, and precision are brought to tequila maturation. The No. 7 Rosa Añejo expression previously made a Best of the Best spirits list using ex-Four Roses and French oak wine barrels.
Production & Profile
Each tequila spent a total of three months maturing in a specific barrel before being bottled at 100 proof. The Mirabelle Eau de Vie Single Barrel was aged in casks used to mature liqueur made from small, yellow Mirabelle plums. Palate notes include plum, vanilla, agave, fig, and butterscotch.
The Apricot Brandy Single Barrel was aged in casks that previously held apricot brandy, offering notes of apricot, citrus, banana, chocolate, grass, and roasted agave.
Brand & Industry History
Cazcanes has been around for about a decade, but the brand has been making a bigger impact here in the U.S. over the past couple of years. In fact, the No. 7 Rosa Añejo expression, a tequila aged in ex-Four Roses and French oak wine barrels, made our Best of the Best spirits list this year.
What This Means
According to the brand, there will be more single-barrel releases in the future. The team is currently trialing tequila in various types of casks as they expect them to be aged in new and unconventional barrels. This platform gives the freedom to explore while keeping agave at the center of every bottle, reinforcing the reputation as an innovator that honors what nature reveals.
Consumer Takeaway
Each of the new Cazcanes Experimental Single Barrel Series tequilas is priced at $100. While they are currently sold out on the brand’s website, availability is expected at secondary retailers, bars, and restaurants over the coming months.
