Overview: Family-owned Ron Matusalem has created a limited edition rum exclusively for StRegis Cap Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic. The expression is aged in a blend of ex-Bourbon and ex-Cognac casks, limited to 200 individually numbered bottles.
The Full Story
Lara Pac, chief marketing officer and head of the luxury division at RonMatusalem, stated that true exclusivity lies in creating rare and unforgettable experiences. This project reflects expertise in developing fully bespoke expressions for brands seeking unique experiences for guests. The collaboration marks the resort’s first venture into the world of premium spirits after two years in development.
Laura Santoni, general manager of The St Regis Cap Cana Resort, noted that craftsmanship and a strong sense of place have defined the resort since its opening. She described the rum as the truest expression of that philosophy. The launch will be accompanied by an exclusive private tasting experience, a cocktail workshop at The St Regis Bar, and a presentation ceremony at The Amber Room, the resort’s dedicated rum and cigar lounge.
Production & Profile
The rum is a blend of ex-Bourbon American oak barrels and ex-Cognac French oak casks. This combination represents Ron Matusalem and the Álvarez family’s more than 150 years of expertise. Flavor notes include vanilla, coconut, and caramel from the Bourbon casks, along with hints of figs, raisins, peach, apricot, cinnamon, and nutmeg contributed by the Cognac barrels.
Each decanter is handcrafted by 30 master craftsmen at Vista Alegre, a Portuguese porcelain house that recently celebrated its bicentennial. Adorning the neck of the bottle is a jewel featuring the St Regis emblem, plated in 24-karat gold and crafted by a fifth-generation jeweller from the Spanish jewellery house Yanes. The presentation case, made in Italy, mimics the resort’s warm sands.
Brand & Industry History
Family-owned Ron Matusalem has established a legacy of heritage and excellence. Earlier this year, master blender Cynthia Vargas toured nine cities in Europe and Asia to strengthen the brand’s positioning in both markets. This month, the brand unveiled the second chapter of its Sublime Collection, finished in Japanese junmai sake casks.
What This Means
The launch signifies a strategic expansion for the resort into premium spirits while maintaining its benchmark status in luxury hospitality. Guests can enjoy the rum in the resort’s restaurants and bars or purchase it as a collector’s item, ensuring the experience remains tied to the location.
Consumer Takeaway
The 200 bottles will be available exclusively at The St Regis Cap Cana Resort.
