Overview: Tilaknagar Industries Ltd reported a significant decline in consolidated net profit for the September quarter of FY27, driven by exceptional expenses associated with integrating the Imperial Blue business. Despite the profit contraction, revenue doubled and volume surged, highlighting strong market performance across its portfolio of Mansion House Brandy and Imperial Blue Whisky.
The Full Story
The company disclosed a consolidated net profit decline of 57.7 percent to ₹22.26 crore for the September quarter of FY27. This reduction was primarily attributed to exceptional expenses totaling ₹10.94 crore incurred during the integration of the Imperial Blue business division acquired from Pernod Ricard India. Profit before exceptional items and tax stood at ₹33.24 crore, representing a 37.16 percent decrease from the previous year’s period.
Revenue from operations increased twofold to ₹2,437.55 crore compared to ₹896.92 crore in the year-ago period, while total expenses also doubled to ₹2,405.08 crore. Total income of Tilaknagar Industries, which includes other income, was also up twofold at ₹2,438.33 crore in the September quarter.
Brand & Industry History
Tilaknagar Industries is the maker of Mansion House Brandy, recognized as India’s largest and the world’s second-largest-selling brandy. The company also owns Imperial Blue Whisky, which holds the position of the world’s third-largest-selling whisky. Chairman & Managing Director Amit Dahanukar noted that Imperial Blue gained a pan-India market share increase of 100bps+ during the quarter.
What This Means
The financial results indicate a strategic transition phase where growth in volume and revenue outpaces immediate profitability due to restructuring costs. Primary volumes remained flattish while secondary volumes showed robust growth, with Imperial Blue secondaries increasing by 8.5 percent on a quarter-over-quarter basis. Existing business secondaries grew at 7 percent during the same period.
Consumer Takeaway
The release confirms that volume grew 160 percent year-over-year to reach 8.9 million cases, with each case containing 9 litres. Market share expansion and secondary volume growth suggest continued consumer demand for these specific spirits despite the financial adjustments required for business integration.
