Overview: Penang Cocktail Week returns for its upcoming edition from September 15 to 20, 2026, adopting the theme ‘Welcome Home’. Organizers have shifted focus toward a grounded atmosphere that reflects the island’s hospitality and community spirit.
The Full Story
The week features five distinct festival pillars: Kaki Lang, Makan Angin, Jiak, Kongsi, and Lau Juak. The opening party takes place at Lucky Hole on September 15, featuring a bar takeover by Andrew Yap and Rishi Randhawa of Origin Bar. On September 16, the Malaysian Invasion IV highlights Petaling Jaya’s Remedy Cocktail Bar, Barley & Rye, Kuala Lumpur’s The Riff District, Poo Loong & Co, and Neo Bar.
International collaborations include the Montréal Cocktail Festival X PCW on September 17 and an Across The S.E.A. Takeover on September 18 involving Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia. A PCW Taiwan Takeover occurs on September 19. Non-bar events such as wellness-inspired sessions and culinary events are also included across the schedule.
Brand & Industry History
A particularly meaningful event is Karl Too’s Persau – Once & Only, scheduled for September 17. This occasion serves as a tribute to Malaysian cocktail pioneer Karl Too, who passed away in 2024. The event marks the completion of recipes created for his final bar project, Persau, which were left unfinished until now.
What This Means
This year’s Penang Cocktail Week feels more grounded and Penang-like than ever. Unlike previous iterations with a number of big international bars participating, this year’s event focuses on the original objective of PCW – to introduce the world to Penang’s cocktail scene and the hospitality of the island in general.
